Yokohama F・Marinos name Erick Mombaerts as new head coach
YOKOHAMA F・MARINOS announced today that they have reached a basic agreement with Erick Mombaerts as the new head coach of the team.
Beginning in 2012, MARINOS has dedicated its efforts in creating a MARINOS style of football that will take the club to the next level. For the next step in the club's journey, YFM has agreed to terms with Erick Mombaerts through a standardized selection process supported by City Football Group (CFG) and its global scouting network.
Mombaerts is an experienced coach having found success at various stops including France U21, Le Havre AC and Toulouse FC. He was also named French Manager of the Year in 2003. He commented, "I am very honoured to join Yokohama F・Marinos. I'll devote all of my enthusiasm, my determination and my thoughts on the game in order to achieve the highest sporting goals. This is a beautiful challenge, which I face along with the whole Club for the enjoyment of fans."
Akira Kaetsu, the president of YOKOHAMA said, "The style of football that Erick Mombaerts aims to cultivate is in line with the style that YOKOHAMA F・MARINOS has built thus far. I am confident that he is a knowledgeable coach who has methodologies to improve the quality of attacking, something the team struggled with last season, while also maintaining our excellent defense. We know that the experience Mombaerts possesses is vital to the development of the team, where he can cultivate a well-balanced, attacking team, utilizing both veterans and young players. I believe he is the best coach to take YOKOHAMA F・MARINOS to the next level."
Brian Marwood, Managing Director of City Football Services said, "We were very pleased to support Marinos in appointing Erick. We believe he will be an excellent choice. He likes his teams to play attractive football and we are really looking forward to working with him."
